1 Approach the cat or kitten carefully. To be able to determine the gender of a cat or kitten, you need to lift its body. Some cats don't like to be touched, so allow time for them to be comfortable near you.

The female cat has an anus and urine/vulva ducts, with the vulva shaped like a vertical slice. You can imagine the female cat's genital shape as a semicolon.

The distance between the anus and vulva in female cats is shorter, usually about 1.3 cm.
